A festival of live music, dance, crafts, childrens' entertainment plus food and drink
A festival of live music, dance, crafts, childrens' entertainment plus food and drink
I would like to start by thanking Pete Wheeler, who retired this year as folk fest chair. Pete has given many years of dedication and commitment to making the festival what it is today.
As in previous years, we have arranged a varied programme of music, dance, workshops and entertainment, which we know will appeal to people of all ages. Childrens’ events will include workshops, Punch and Judy, face painting, theatre performances and much more.
The event will commence with a procession and opening ceremony at 10.00a.m.
A full programme of music and dance will take place throughout the village , including the Market Square, the David Hall, the Blake Hall and St. Peter and St. Paul’s Church.
The Fest. will feature over twenty groups of artists including Morris, Scottish and Irish folk dancers and an eclectic mix of musical artists including choirs, bands and solo performers.
To ensure that no-one goes hungry there will be a variety of food stalls to cater for all culinary tastes.
The Brewers Arms and Holm will be open throughout the day and at 9 p.m. the Brewers will host the ever-popular Devon-based band, The Dambuskers.
Once again, the defining principles of the festival remain as being “by local people for the benefit of local people” and ensuring that it continues to be a “free event”. A massive thank you to all our sponsors and supporters, without whom none of this would take place.
I must give a special mention to all members of the Folk Fest Committee who have worked tirelessly throughout the year to ensure this event is a great success. Also, a massive thank you to all the volunteers and helpers who give up their time and without whom this day would not be possible.
Please give generously to the collections to ensure that the Fest’s long-term future is secure.
Here’s hoping for a dry day.
